How to use reddit and pre-screen.dev to attract and screen developers

This method is absolutely effortless after you set it up. It attracts curious and above-average developers. It IS possible for small firms to attract talent without a fancy or over-the-top hiring process.

This is what they have to say about the process

Let’s jump right in.

Step 1: Create an account on pre-screen.dev

After creating your account (free 15 day trial) you need to create a job opening. You can have as many as you want, and there is no limit on the number of applicants each one gets. So, go crazy.

Step 2: Reddit

Reddit has a lot of subreddits. Different locations have subreddits for developers in that location.

For example, for developers in Portugal, there is /r/devpt. I’m Portuguese, so I casually browse that one sometimes. You can find the subreddit where the developers you want to hire hang out in the most, and post in the appropriate threads.

Every month, they have a “who is hiring” thread. I drop a link to the job opening I want to hire for, and mention that applicants have to apply through an API. This generally attracts a certain type of curious developer.

Step 3: Done!

After this, I get a steady stream of applicants in my inbox. The best part is that they are already pre-screened and all I have to do is check for culture fit. There is no time wasted on screening/interviewing unqualified applicants!
